Leading gambling operators found a new Danish trade association for online gambling

The gambling operators bet365, Betfair, Sportingbet and Unibet have joined forces to form a trade association for online gambling, the Danish Online Gambling Association (DOGA), which aims to ensure that the Danish market is a well regulated and commercially viable one that can provide inspiration for other jurisdictions with its fair and balanced approach to online gambling regulation.

Four leading gambling operators, all applying for a licence to offer betting and online casino services in Denmark by 1st of January 2012, have launched the trade association today and will begin work as the new regime begins to unfold.

The new association will be led by Morten Ronde, formerly chief adviser in the Danish Gambling Authority, who has 12 years of experience in the gambling field and has played a significant role in the drafting of the new Danish online gambling reform which will be enacted by 1st of January 2012.

Morten Ronde says about the new trade association:

“I am very happy to be heading up the new trade association. Denmark has in my mind created one of the most modern and attractive gambling regimes in Europe and I look forward to working with the government and the gambling operators in bringing the good intentions in the law into practice.”

Birgitte Sand, Director of the Danish Gambling Authority, commenting on the establishment of the DOGA stated: “The establishment of DOGA is welcome by the DGA and we look forward to working with Morten and the DOGA members to create a long standing dialogue on issues arising from the regulation of the online gambling market in Denmark.”

The association held its formative meeting on 29th November and a three year activity plan was developed.

Ronde stated that. “I see it as the most important role for the trade association to initiate dialogue between all stake holders in the gambling market, especially politicians, public authorities, consumer organizations, gambling addiction treatment institutions and operators, in order to create the best possible frame work for a responsible and attractive gambling market in Denmark. To this end we will be looking to bring in more members to the Association who are equally committed to these aims.
